Walk in the Clouds

On the 15/03/14 a little group of us headed out on another lovely weekend walk. The Walk in the Clouds is a great 6 mile walk from Stanton-by-Dale, Risley, Sandiacre and Stoney Cloud Nature Reserve. The views from Stoney Cloud were amazing looking all over the local area including a view of the newest addition to the skyline Winston the Windmill.

Walking total for the year with clients - 52km

Stanton-by-Dale Church - St Michael & All Angels
Rob is Spartan!!!

A great bunch of people plus Lily the dog.

The next walk was Hermits walk on the 29/03/14.

All this walking is for many reasons with the first being health and fitness benefits. Secondly it's because in August I'm walking/jogging the half Isle of Wight Challenge (56km in a day) all for Cancer Research UK. Spartan 300

Eventually I've got round to trying the 3rd and final Spartan challenge the Spartan 300. So after doing the 1000 and the 500 the 300 should be easy? Well this is the first one that uses more than just body weight for the exercises so it's a totally different style workout.

The format is the same as the 1000 you can't move on to the next exercise until the first one is finished, it follows a set pattern and like both the 500 and 1000 timer keeps running even during a rest.

But I couldn't care less about the time for this one as when you're lifting/holding 61kg posture is the most important thing not speed. I still took my time just to give you an idea about how long it may take.

Exercise:-

25 x Pull Up
50 x Deadlift -61kg
50 x Press Up
50 x 24 inch Box Jumps
50 x Floor Wipers -holding 61kg
25 x Clean and Press both sides - 16kg
25 x Pull Up

Done!

My time was 43 minutes.

Easiest exercise I found were the box jumps and maybe press ups. Deadlift and pull ups weren't too bad splitting it into smaller sets. The Clean and Press was actually really nice with that weight. Floor wipers were far harder than they initially felt!!! Make sure you've got a spotter for this so when you're doing the Deadlift your posture is correct, they can help with the weight on the floor wipers too.

Enjoy

Men's Health Challange - Survival of the Fittest 2013

A couple of weekends ago I took part in the Nottingham leg of the Survival of the Fittest with a couple of clients and friends. For the week running up to the event I had been suffering with a bad cold, so on race day seeing the rain pouring down wasn't the best start but I wasn't letting a cold stop me from running. It was a wet, cold and just dull day but who cares!!! The point of the run is to get wet and muddy while having a good laugh.

We started the run as a clean looking set of bloke, that didn't last long. Challenge was set could I better last years time of 1 hour 29 minutes which would also be a new PB for Dave, Ben, Lewis and Matthew as it was their first time for this run.

From left to right - Dave, Ben, Myself, Lewis & Matthew.

The next photo is at about 11.5k just a few hundred meters left in the run and we're in a big paddling pool. As you can tell by the colour of the water it really didn't help to clean us.

The end result 5 muddy, soggy blokes in need of a drink, food and a long warm shower or bath. All I know is after washing my hair 3 times all the grit was gone and I had one good nights sleep.

So the important bit did I get a new PB? Yes I did we finished in 1 hour 24 minutes. Next years target is a sub 1 hour 15 minutes maybe faster and hopefully I won't have a stinking cold like I did this year.

Bring on more mud runs in 2014 with different clients achieving different challenges.

Each run I do it's to support Cancer Research UK - If you wish to donate visit my JustGiving page thanks you :)
