On Saturday 17th January we did the Walk in the footsteps of D H Lawrence from the AA guide book - D H Lawrence Walk.
The walk is just under 6 miles but we started from Beauvale Priory Tea Rooms so extended it to about 6.5 miles.
The walk is relatively flat with only gentle hills to walk up and down so it is a good walk for all abilities. By setting off from Beauvale Priory we walked across Moorgreen first and there were lovely views over the surrounding areas. The walk takes you past St.Marys Church as we approached there was a funeral taking place so we had a little pause as we let the service begin before following the path around and continuing with the walk. The church and surrounding area looked lovely and such a peaceful location.

There is a nice walk in and around Colliers Wood near the start of the walk if you follow the AA guide or around the half way point if you set off from the tea rooms like we did. The wood is used by bird watchers and there are loads of bird feeders dotted around allowing for a nice educational walk in the woods for young families.
This is then shortly followed by the much larger High Park Wood which was not only in use for walkers and joggers but there looked some good trails for cyclists too (mountain bike not road). On this section you get close to the M1 but at no point can you hear it, we only just spotted it between some trees. This section is about the hilliest part and compared to most other walks we've done it's easy.
Up to the Woods we go. |
We then finished the walk back at Beauvale Priory where we started. If you followed the AA guide you will be just over half way and now head over Moorgreen back towards the car park. I recommend following the walk how we did as the Tea Rooms are really nice with friendly staff and great food. As you can tell by Simon's very happy face after finishing his home made soup and the afternoon tea that a few of them enjoyed.
We had a little walk around the old ruins too and a look into the history of the area. I'm sure there are some amazing photos to be taken by a much better photographer than myself haha.
