Buxton Twin Peaks Midnight Walk - For Cancer Research UK

With the cancelation of the Colour Blast Dash I was after another even to replace it. One of my clients found the Buxton Lions Twin Peaks Midnight Challenge. It was on the Summer Solstice and fitted perfectly after Friday night badminton session.

A little group of 5 of us set off up to Buxton arriving just after 9. After a little walk around the Pavilion Gardens we found the boating lake where the walk started from. We had to have a pre-walk photo while we were all still awake. We then set off to the first of the two peaks at Solomon's Temple.

The 5 of us ready to go supporting Cancer Research UK.

A lovely walk across a few fields then up through a wood and the first Peak was in sight, Solomon's Temple. It was a great sight seeing the temple in the distance, walking up to it as the sun was setting over our shoulder. The views were breath taking helped by it being such a clear night. We couldn't have asked for better weather for the walk.

We had a little break at Solomon's Temple for a drink, photos and to enjoy the amazing views. From here it was walk across the fields past some "lively cows" as the marshal told us. When we got to the cows they didn't seem very active, we assumed we missed the dancing cows of Buxton haha.

The second peak was at Corbar Cross after going through Corbar Wood. By this point it was totally dark so the head torches were needed, it was the first time using my head torch and I was surprised at how bright it actually was. I picked it up over winter in case I had a run along the Nutbrook Trail one night but it never got used as I ran along the roads over winter and usually during the day.

The last little scramble was well worth it to see the views of Buxton by night, all the lights twinkling below us with the stars above. Corbar Cross had been lit up by the organises and looked amazing. The Buxton Lions did a great job organising the walk. All the way there were marshals at check points, lights in the woods and stiles to guide you along.

We all made it, Corbar Cross at midnight.

From the final peak at Corbar Cross it was back down into the wood, we didn't get lost at this point we took a detour! This wasn't any fault of the organisers, we were chatting away and missed a little turning. Either way it was all fun and games with the head torches guiding the way. We made it out onto the roads eventually and back to the finishing point at the Buckingham Hotel. Once chilling out with a nice refreshing beverage we were awarded our finishing certificates. It was such an enjoyable walk with some nice climbs with amazing views while the sun was setting. Walking in the woods at midnight was an interesting experience and I'm now planning a midnight walk with clients.
